The listening section of the test is 40 minutes.
You will hear recorded extracts while you answer various questions on the written question paper.
The instructions are given on the recording and on the question paper.
There are three parts to the listening test which takes 30 minutes in total.
You will hear each section of the recording twice.
At the end of the listening test you will have 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the listening test answer sheet. The test has 30 questions in total and each question is worth one mark.
BEC Vantage Listening Test Part One
There are three conversations or messages.
On the question paper (screen) you will see a text with gaps (spaces) which you have to fill with information you hear in the recording.
Each text has four gaps. The texts used in the test may be:
- forms
- message pads
- invoices
- extracts from a diary
- or other similar documents
In this part of the test you are being evaluated on your ability to listen and capture factual information to complete the text.
BEC Vantage Listening Test Part Two
There are two sections.
Each section has five short monologues and you have to match each one with eight possible options.
The options given are linked by a theme or topic.
In this part of the test you are being evaluated on your global listening skills and how well you understand the gist or main idea of each monologue.
Listening Test Part Three
In this section the text is longer.
The recording may be:
- an interview
- a discussion
- a presentation
- a report
There are eight multiple choice questions, each one with three options. You have to choose the correct answer from the three options.
This section of the BEC Vantage test evaluates your general comprehension of ideas and opinions you hear during the recording which lasts about four minutes.
