BEC Vantage Speaking Test

There are three parts to the BEC Vantage Speaking test. Normally you do the test together with another person. In the speaking test there are two examiners, one who carries out the test while the other observes and listens to you speaking and makes notes.

The BEC Vantage speaking test lasts about 14 minutes and there are three separate parts to the test. Your overall score for the BEC Vantage Speaking test is worth 25% of the overall mark for the BEC Vantage test. During the speaking test you talk on your own, with the examiner, and with the other candidate doing the test with you.

BEC Vantage Speaking Test | Part 1

This part of the BEC Test consists of a conversation with the examiner who will ask you some general questions and then continue to ask you some more questions related to business in general. You will be expected to talk about yourself, what interests you, your home and your work.

You should practice talking about personal information, describing current circumstances, past experiences, future plans, giving an opinion and speculating. You will be expectd to talk for around 3 minutes in this section of the test.

BEC Vantage Speaking Test | Part 2

This section of the test requires you to give a short presentation based on a business theme. You will have a choice of three subjects (A, B or C) and you will have one 1 minute to think about and prepare what you would like to say on the topic. Your presentation should last for around 1 minute.

You will have to listen to your speaking partner in the test because the examiner will ask you a question at the end about what your partner said during their presentation.

You should practice giving short presentations of around 1 to 2 minutes, presenting different types of information and giving and justifying opinions. This section of the test lasts for about 6 minutes, which includes both of you speaking and the examiner’s follow up questions.

BEC Vantage Speaking test | Part 3

BEC speaking Part 3 is the ‘discussion’ part of the test and you will have to discus with your speaking partner a topic related to business. You will be expected to discuss the topic and decide what action to take based on the information you are given by the examiner.

You should practise giving and supporting opinions, making comparisons and contrasting, as well as speculating, and how to agree and disagree with another person's opinion or point of view. This part of the test lasts for around 5 minutes.
